When to get professional help
Arrange a plumber if the leak persists, a valve is stuck, the fitting is corroded, or you cannot safely stop the water. Keep clear if water reaches electrical equipment.
What have you noticed?
These clues help explain the problem. They do not confirm its cause.
| What you see | What to report |
|---|---|
| Drips from the spout when closed | An internal sealing part may be worn. |
| Water around the base or handle | The leak may involve a different seal or fitting. |
| Water underneath the basin | Check the under-sink leak guide; this may be a supply or waste connection. |
What you can do now
- Take a photo showing the whole tap and a close-up of where water appears. Note whether the problem is on hot, cold or both.
- Contain small drips without obstructing the basin drain. Keep the surrounding cabinet and floor dry.
- Avoid forcing the handle or taking the tap apart before the supply is isolated. Parts differ between ordinary taps and mixers.
Details that help us arrange the repair
- Mixer or separate hot/cold taps, plus any visible brand.
- Where the water comes from and whether the tap still shuts off.
- Your suburb, when the leak started and any cabinet damage.
If you rent or live in a managed building, notify the owner or property manager and agree the arrangements before authorising work. Take photos only where it is safe; you can share them when CID follows up.
What affects the repair cost?
The tap type, replacement part, access and any damage affect the quote. Ask whether a repair or replacement is proposed and whether the assessment and parts are included.
Questions before you book
Will tightening the handle stop the leak?
Forcing the handle can damage the mechanism. Close it normally and arrange a repair if water continues to drip.
Can CID help without an app download?
Yes. Use the request form on this page. CID will confirm local availability and the next step before a visit is agreed.
