My geyser is not heating. What should I check?

Check whether the issue affects every hot tap and whether there has been a power interruption or timer change. Look for visible leaks from a safe position. A geyser that repeatedly trips, leaks or smells burnt needs professional attention; do not open its electrical cover.

When to get professional help

If you notice leakage, tripping, smoke or a burning smell, stop using the system. Isolate only from dry, safe controls you understand and seek qualified help.

What have you noticed?

These clues help explain the problem. They do not confirm its cause.

What you seeWhat to report
All hot taps are coldThe water-heating system or its supply needs checking.
Only one outlet is affectedThe local mixer or fixture may be involved.
The geyser circuit tripsReport an electrical fault; do not repeatedly reset it.

What you can do now

  1. Note the last time the water was hot and whether normal electricity supply has returned.
  2. Record any known timer setting or schedule change without opening electrical enclosures.
  3. Describe whether water is cold, lukewarm or intermittent. Do not alter the thermostat, bypass controls or test an exposed element.

Details that help us arrange the repair

  • Electric, solar or heat-pump system, if known.
  • All taps or only one, and when the problem started.
  • Recent outages, timer changes, tripping or visible leaks.

If you rent or live in a managed building, notify the owner or property manager and agree the arrangements before authorising work. Take photos only where it is safe; you can share them when CID follows up.

What affects the repair cost?

A supply issue, thermostat fault and failed element have different remedies. Ask who will diagnose the fault and whether electrical work, parts and any follow-up visit are included.

Questions before you book

Can I replace the element myself?

Geysers combine electricity, pressure and hot water. Have an appropriately qualified professional diagnose and repair the system.

Does it need replacing immediately?

Not necessarily. Confirm the fault before deciding between a component repair and replacement of the geyser.
